Pizza event to feature Buckeyes game

A tailgate event this weekend will feature local pizza and the Ohio State football game on the big screen. The first Slice of Springfield is being held from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday at the Veterans Park Amphitheater. The event is being co-sponsored by both the Young Professionals of Greater Springfield and the National Trail Parks and Recreation District. The district will also televise the Ohio State game against Penn State on their large, inflatable screen at 8 p.m. Several local pizza vendors, including Bada Bing! Pizzeria, Mikey’s Pizza, Station One, Pizza Time and Domino’s Pizza will be in attendance. Several food trucks will also be there, including Buckeye Pig Rig, Pa’s Pork and Sweet Concessions. The Young Professionals group will sell beer and other hot beverages at the event, including coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider, said member Sarah Michelson, business manager for the Springfield Arts Council. “We really want to spread the word about our group and get more people involved it,” Michelson said. The groups are expecting a big crowd and have received lots of traffic on social media, said Amy Van Huffel, recreation specialist for NTPRD, especially with the Buckeyes game. …
