Ohio State football: Urban Meyer doesn’t reveal starting quarterback, yet

Columbus >> Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer agreed on Oct. 19 that the Buckeyes’ offense had a better flow to it in a 38-10 win over Penn State over the weekend. But Meyer stopped short of handing the reins of the offense to the quarterback who was largely responsible for it — redshirt sophomore J.T. Barrett. With the top-ranked Buckeyes (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) starting their preparation for an Oct. 24 trip to Rutgers (3-3, 1-2), Meyer said he “has an idea” who he will start at quarterback this coming weekend, but wasn’t ready to make that public knowledge. “I have an idea,” he said. “But I want to make sure I visit with everybody and make sure we’re doing the right thing.” Advertisement Two weeks ago in a 49-28 win over Maryland, Meyer dabbled in a new quarterback rotation, with Cardale Jones remaining as the starting quarterback and giving way to backup J.T. Barrett once the Buckeyes reached the red zone (i.e. inside the opponent’s 20-yard line).
