The defending national champions may have needed a bit of time to get back up to speed and look like the dominant squad they were projected to be during a hype-filled offseason. But Meyer’s blueprint calls for gearing up to compete for titles in November, and clearly the Buckeyes are right on schedule for that now that their work in October is done. Ohio State is coming off their most complete performance of the year heading into their bye week. “I’m very pleased,” Meyer said Saturday after the 49-7 throttling of Rutgers. “Now it’s bye-week time. Time to get rested up.” The Buckeyes might actually prefer to keep the momentum rolling given how efficiently all three phases are starting to play. But they have a couple of nagging injuries that could use some time to heal, and with their toughest tests of the season looming at the end of November with marquee showdowns against Michigan State and rival Michigan, recharging the batteries now could be useful. Either way, the Buckeyes can catch their breath and take stock of where they are through eight weeks, and the state of the program once again looks pretty impressive. …
