Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett suspended for 1 game after OVI citation

Ohio State is facing another quarterback shakeup in advance of its games against Michigan State and Michigan. The school announced Saturday morning that quarterback J.T. Barrett has been suspended for the Buckeyes’ game against Minnesota next weekend after he was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. A statement from Ohio State reads: “Student-athlete J.T. Barrett was cited by Columbus police Saturday morning at a campus area check point with a misdemeanor offense of OVI.” As a result, Barrett has been suspended by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer for a game against Minnesota on Nov. 7. While the statement from Ohio State did not say if the suspension for the Minnesota game will be the extent of Barrett’s punishment, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith confirmed to ESPN that Barrett will return for a Nov. 14 game at Illinois. Barrett, a redshirt sophomore, made his first start of the season against Rutgers last week after serving as the Buckeyes’ No. 2 quarterback throughout the season. Against Rutgers, Barrett completed 14-of-18 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns.
