The likelihood isn’t great, the window is relatively small and there are still questions about the viability of Braxton Miller’s arm. But with J.T. Barrett suspended and Cardale Jones set once again to take over the offense, if the top-ranked Buckeyes need to turn to another backup, this week that guy will be Miller. Depth at the most important position on the field was always supposed to be a luxury for Urban Meyer, and nothing drives that point home more than the possibility of turning to a former two-time Big Ten Player of the Year as an emergency option off the bench. “As of right now it would be Braxton,” Meyer said on Monday. “We’re right in the middle of those conversations, but there’s no question he’s our No. 2 quarterback.” Braxton Miller could return to the quarterback role if Ohio State needs to turn to a backup against Minnesota. Jamie Sabau/Getty ImagesJust how much of the playbook Miller could conceivably operate at the position on such short notice is a valid question, particularly after spending this season focusing on learning his new responsibilities at wideout and H-back. Running routes, developing his blocking skills and sharpening his hands as a receiver hasn’t left much time during practice for him actually throw passes, and Miller has indicated on numerous occasions that he’s happy in his new role and seemed to have little interest in a return to quarterback. After a pair of surgeries on his throwing shoulder that prompted the move in the first place, there is reason to wonder about just how much velocity or accuracy he could get on a pass down the field…
