Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama are top four in first College Football Playoff rankings

Notre Dame was fifth and Baylor was sixth. Clemson (8-0), LSU (7-0) and Ohio State (8-0) are among 11 unbeaten teams in FBS, nearly quadruple the number there was last season when the committee started ranking teams. Alabama (No. 4), which plays host to LSU on Saturday, and Notre Dame (No. 5) are both 7-1, but were seeded ahead of Baylor (7-0), No. 7 Michigan State (8-0) and No. 8 TCU (8-0). For TCU, which missed a playoff spot last season when the Horned Frogs fell from third to sixth in the final set of CFP rankings despite a 55-3 victory over Iowa State to close the regular season, Tuesday’s rankings brought back some uncomfortable memories from last season.
