Throw out the idea that LSU and Alabama are in the middle of a historical run against each other, and the reaction you get from the two veteran coaches is predictable. In fact, in an era when coaches rarely stay in one place for as many years, there are only a handful of comparisons that connect the current LSU-Alabama series to the past. Florida and Florida State had some sizzle when Steve Spurrier and Bobby Bowden were running their respective shows. Same for the Gators and Tennessee when Phil Fulmer had the Volunteers among the elite. The closest thing to where the Tigers and Tide are now, though, goes back a generation with two coaches and programs that Les Miles and Nick Saban both have a link to.
