Cardale Jones gives OSU backup plan, if that’s the plan

Updated at 8:01 a.m. ET COLUMBUS, Ohio – Cardale Jones finished off Minnesota with a 38-yard touchdown run straight up the middle for a 28-14 victory on Saturday at Ohio Stadium.  Jones, who finished with 12 carries for 65 yards, drew laughs from reporters afterward when talking about that ability to run within the Buckeyes’ offense.  MORE: Week 10 winners & losers | Ready to wreak playoff havoc? “Definitely not as well as J.T. (Barrett),” Jones said. “I’m not as quick, but I’m kind of hard to tackle. It takes about 10-to-12 yards to get my speed kicked in.” Jones fielded the other question. He said he didn’t look at Saturday’s start as an opportunity to make his case for the starting job ahead of Barrett against Illinois on Nov. 14.  Ohio State coach Urban Meyer didn’t get into the specifics of that decision – that will come again later this week – but the quarterback battle for the Buckeyes still doesn’t have a clear-cut answer nine games into the season. Barrett will be in the mix after a one-game suspension, and Ohio State rolled up 528 yards in a 49-7 win against Rutgers on Oct. 24.  Jones finished 12-of-22 passing for 187 yards and a TD against the Gophers to go with the rushing yards.
