JT Barrett to start for Buckeyes after one-game suspension

Despite picking up yet another win with Cardale Jones as the starting quarterback (he has yet to lose a game as Ohio State’s starter), the Buckeyes will return J.T. Barrett to the starting role again this week against Illinois. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer announced that decision on Monday. There is a mild stipulation for Barrett to be given the starting nod against the Illini. “If J.T. has a good week of practice, he’ll get the start,” Meyer said. “I think it’s the right thing at this time.” Barrett sat out of Saturday’s game against Minnesota as he served a one-game suspension following an OVI charge on Ohio State’s bye week the previous week. Jones got the start in Barrett’s absence. Jones completed 12 of 25 pass attempts for 187 yards and a touchdown in Ohio State’s 28-14 win over the Gophers in Columbus. Ohio State remains undefeated and sits in first place in the Big Ten East Division and third in the College Football Playoff ranking, which will be updated Tuesday night. Barrett stepped into the starting job at quarterback just a couple of weeks ago, supplanting Jones as the team’s starter.
