JT Barrett fined $400, loses license for 180 days

Barrett will be bumming rides over the next several months after a Franklin County judge resolved his operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI) case Tuesday by fining the Ohio State quarterback $400 and suspending his license for 180 days. Barrett must also complete a three-day alcohol education program, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Police pulled Barrett over on Halloween morning after they caught him trying to avoid an OVI checkpoint. Reports said he was cooperative and measured a 0.099 percent blood-alcohol level on a breathalyzer test, which is above the legal limit in Ohio of 0.08 percent. Barrett doesn’t turn 21 until January. “I see an excellent young man who made a horrible mistake and is 100 percent owning up to it,” Barrett’s attorney Phil Templeton said. “I know he is horribly embarrassed, and he is very concerned with how this has affected those close to him, starting with his family, his teammates, his coaches, and of course the Ohio State fans. He knows he is in a pressure cooker program, and he is really embarrassed for all the negative attention this has brought to the team.” Barrett was suspended two weeks by OSU coach Urban Meyer shortly after his arrest
