Meyer, No. 2 Ohio State not overlooking Illini

CHAMPAIGN — When you’re Urban Meyer and your Ohio State football team has won 27 straight Big Ten Conference games, there’s a tendency to snooze when the opponent is not Michigan, Michigan State or another genuine contender. Or if there’s an important matchup looming one week down the road. That’s why no one was happier than Meyer to see Illinois play well and look sharp on tape in last week’s 48-14 rout at Purdue. Second-ranked Ohio State comes to Memorial Stadium on Saturday and Meyer said when he rolled tape this week, his team snapped to attention. “I’m glad Illinois looked good on film, especially their last game,” Meyer said. “They looked outstanding. They have a gigantic defensive front, one of the top tacklers in America (safety Clayton Fejedelem) and a very accurate quarterback. “Their quarterback (Wes Lunt), I didn’t know much about him until I met with our defensive staff and the accuracy of their (passing) offense is what our staff sees. “What they did last week opened everyone’s eyes. Almost 600 yards in offense.” Had Illinois stumbled around and lost at Purdue, Meyer would worry about the undefeated Buckeyes looking ahead to next week’s matchup with Michigan State. …
