Ohio State not looking past matchup with Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. • When you’re Urban Meyer and your Ohio State football team has won 27 straight Big Ten Conference games, there’s a tendency to snooze when the opponent is not Michigan, Michigan State or another genuine contender. Or if there’s an important matchup looming one week down the road. That’s why no one was happier than Meyer to see Illinois play well and look sharp on tape in last week’s 48-14 rout at Purdue. Ohio State comes to Memorial Stadium today and Meyer said when he rolled tape this week, his team snapped to attention. “I’m glad Illinois looked good on film, especially their last game,” Meyer said. “They looked outstanding. They have a gigantic defensive front, one of the top tacklers in America (safety Clayton Fejedelem) and a very accurate quarterback. “Their quarterback (Wes Lunt), I didn’t know much about him until I met with our defensive staff and the accuracy of their (passing) offense is what our staff sees. “What they did last week opened everyone’s eyes. …
