And after stepping foot in enemy territory on Tuesday ahead of two pivotal games for the No. 3 Buckeyes against programs from the state of Michigan, Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James lobbed a couple verbal jabs that showed he’s not lacking for confidence — and not backing away from a little trash talk ahead of The Game. Asked specifically about Jim Harbaugh’s impact with the Michigan Wolverines, James first acknowledged that college football’s most intense rivalry doesn’t rely on coaches to fuel interest. But he also couldn’t resist sneaking in a shot at Michigan, given Ohio State’s recent run of success in the series. “Well, it doesn’t matter who’s the coach over at Michigan, it’s always a rivalry,” James told reporters in a video shot by WXYZ-TV ahead of a game on the road at Detroit. “We really don’t care who’s at the helm over there.” James certainly cares about the guy leading the Buckeyes, and his relationship with Urban Meyer has only strengthened his ties as both a fan and occasional representative of the program. His faith in Meyer’s coaching ability is a big part of the reason he dismissed any nervousness about Saturday’s clash with No. 13 Michigan State, the last remaining hurdle before the rivalry game and a significant one in the chase for the national championship. “No, coach Urban Meyer will prepare the team to do their job in all three facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams,” James said. “They’ll be ready to go.” As for the fans, it appears they’re ready as well.
