Ohio State Basketball: Is Thad Matta’s Coaching Slipping?

The Ohio State Men’s Basketball team have not had the success they have been accustomed to. In order for changes to made, Thad Matta needs to alter his approach. After losing for the second time in a row to a non power five conference team, by the tune of 82-74 to Louisiana Tech, one must question what is happening in Columbus with the Ohio State Men’s Basketball team? Ohio State previously lost to the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) and both games were played in Value City Arena. LT and UTSA are two teams that are usually tune up games for power five conference teams. Each of those teams have gotten better recently, but not to the extent of taking the Buckeyes to task on their home court! I asked myself why would this possibly happen, and then I took a look at the Ohio State basketball team over the last couple of seasons. The Buckeyes have certainly gone in a backward direction as the teams has shown this season. Ohio State is not very good offensively and really have not been for a couple of years, especially since forward Jared Sullinger left school early. Combo guard D’Angelo Russell was a great player, but he unfortunately was the only constant form of offense on the team. The Buckeyes have gifted players this year, but there is no real leadership or consistent offense at this time. Who will replace Russell’s production? The players on the roster are young and eventually could develop into a solid core. Though there is hope in what is to come, for the time being the Buckeyes are not even ranked in the top 25 or is in the upper echelon of the Big Ten Conference. …
