Ohio State has suspended defensive lineman Adolphus Washington for the Fiesta Bowl after he was cited for solicitation on Wednesday night. The suspension results from a violation of team policy, head coach Urban Meyer announced Friday morning. Washington will make a court appearance on Dec. 17 for the first-degree misdemeanor charge. He issued an apology on Thursday after news of the citation came out. “I want to sincerely apologize to my family, to coach Meyer and the coaching staff, to my teammates and my friends for my lack of judgment last night and for my actions that I truly regret,” Washington said. “I have wanted to be a high-character teammate, a contributor to the success of this program and, most importantly, someone my family can be proud of. I am extremely disappointed in myself, and I can honestly say I will learn from my mistake and I will accept the consequences that deservedly will come my way. And I hope that people will know that I am truly sorry and that I sincerely do apologize.” • Report: Jeremy Pruitt returning to Alabama as defensive coordinator Washington, a senior, recorded 49 total tackles this season, including 23 solo tackles and four sacks. The 6’4″, 290-pound defensive lineman started in all 14 games for the Buckeyes last season and in the College Football Playoff national championship. The Buckeyes (11–1) will play Notre Dame (10–2) in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
