The Sports Xchange College football notebook: Ohio State adds Schiano to staff Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano will be the co-defensive coordinator alongside Luke Fickell at Ohio State, the school announced on Friday. Schiano replaces Chris Ash, who was named head coach at Rutgers this week. Ash served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Ohio State and helped lead the Buckeyes to the 2014 national championship. Schiano will also have the title of associate head coach and will assist in the coaching of the safeties. The school said Schiano’s hiring is pending completion of a background check and approval from the Ohio State University Board of Trustees. –Willie Fritz is leaving Georgia Southern to become the new coach at Tulane, according to published reports. Fritz, 55, went 17-7 in two seasons at Georgia Southern — including an 8-4 mark this season. He will be taking over a Tulane squad that has gone 3-9 in each of the past two seasons. He replaces Curtis Johnson, who went 15-34 in four seasons with the Green Wave. –Alabama named Jeremy Pruitt as its new defensive coordinator. …
