Michigan football did win a national championship this year after all

Jim Harbaugh’s first season as the head coach at Michigan was for the most part a success.  The Wolverines have already won four more games than they did last season with a bowl matchup against Florida still to go.  They did not win a championship, though, so there is still more work to do.  Or did they?  The Detroit Free Press notes there are some bragging rights the Wolverines regained over Ohio State despite losing to the Buckeyes on the field 42-13.  This week, the NCAA certified Michigan’s (national) attendance title for this season, as U-M regained the No. 1 spot it held from 1998-2013, but lost to Ohio State in 2014.Michigan totaled 771,174 fans for its seven-game season, an average of 110,168 per game. That was with U-M reducing the Michigan Stadium capacity to 107,601 this season, a number that still placed it ahead of the second-largest stadium, Penn State’s Beaver Stadium (at 106,572). Ohio State’s average attendance also went up in 2015, from 106,296 to 107,244, but the Buckeyes’ growth was outpaced by the Michigan faithful’s enthusiasm for Harbaugh’s homecoming season.
