Second year of playoff system churns out perfect matchup

GLENDALE, ARIZ. –  The second year of the College Football Playoff era went just as planned, thank you very much. Despite months of angst and endless debate by fans and pundits across the college football world, the right two teams huddled up to face one another in Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Say what you want about the teams that failed to make this year’s finale, the system got it perfect with the top-two teams in the No. 1 Clemson Tigers facing the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Big Ten wasn’t so big this year (with no apologies made to whining Ohio State Buckeyes fans): The No. 3 Michigan State Spartans?
