Ohio State steals two top recruits away from Maryland

The rich got even richer Monday when Ohio State pulled away two of Maryland’s top recruits.  Quarterback Dwayne Haskins, 247Sports.com’s third-ranked recruit in Maryland, pulled his commitment from the in-state school to join Urban Meyer in Columbus, while linebacker Keandre Jones, the No. 4 recruit in the state, pulled his 13-month oral commitment to the Terrapins to play for the Buckeyes. “It has been a dream of mine to play for Ohio State,” Haskins said (via ESPN.com). “This prestigious university best represents my family values, and playing under Urban Meyer’s strong leadership abilities and a person that I can have a relationship with after football was important.” MORE: 10 best Ohio State players of all time | Who steps up for OSU next year? Haskins also pointed at the firing of Randy Edsall midseason as another factor in his decision, saying it “was God’s way of giving me an opportunity to re-evaluate my decision.” Former Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin was hired as Maryland’s coach after the season. Ohio State has the top-ranked recruiting class according to both Scout.com and 247Sports.com. All commitments are nonbinding until National Signing Day on Feb. 3.
