Penn State men’s basketball will not participate in postseason play

According to an official statement from Penn State men’s basketball head coach Patrick Chambers, the Nittany Lions will not participate in postseason play this spring. In an email sent by Alissa Clendenen, the school’s associate director of strategic communications, Chambers stated the following in making the announcement Sunday: “We have decided not to pursue opportunities for post-season play this season. I am proud of what this team accomplished and how hard they continued to work and battle each day to become the best team we could be in March. We will continue to work hard in the off-season to build on our successes and advance the process of developing Penn State Basketball.” Penn State finished the 2015-16 season with an even 16-16 overall record to accompany the team’s 7-11 record in Big Ten play. Marking the most conference wins during Chambers’ five-year stint at the helm, Penn State’s season ultimately came to an end during the second-round of the Big Ten Tournament at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Nittany Lions’ men’s basketball team has now posted at least 16 wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time since the program joined the ranks of the Big Ten for the 1992-93 season.
