Despite the loss, fans have plenty to look forward to in the future. While I admire Thad Matta as a coach, he bit off more than he could chew this year. After a rough season in the Big Ten and being beaten twice by lesser teams in the pre Big Ten season, it’s mercifully over. With the latest loss to The University of Florida in the second round of the NIT on the Buckeyes home floor, it comes to an end. The score of 74-66 looked close and every time the Buckeyes looked like they were making a move, the Gators had an answer and pulled it back to a double digit lead. A lot of the reason is the youth on this team and lack of leadership on the floor. This team needs work on both ends of the floor, as their defense was good at times this year and really bad at others. They showed what they could do in beating Kentucky in Madison Square Garden early on, but didn’t put their games together for stretches this year. They finally worked their way into the NIT and barely beat Akron in the first round in overtime. Had the Zips made a few foul shots at the end it would have been an early exit for the Bucks…
