Ohio State AD Gene Smith throws some shade at Michigan over spring break practices

ANN ARBOR — Earlier this month, it seemed as though Ohio State’s football coach had no real opposing views toward Jim Harbaugh’s spring football practice plan. On Tuesday, however, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer walked that back a bit during a conversation with reporters in Columbus. This time around, Meyer explained that while he’ll certainly look into the idea — if the NCAA still allows it — he “can’t see taking spring break away from players.” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith was a little more stern on the topic, taking the opportunity to throw a little rivalry shade toward Harbaugh and Michigan on Tuesday. Ohio State AD Gene Smith on holding spring practice in Florida: “If we were jump starting our program, I’d probably try to do that too.” — Ben Axelrod (@BenAxelrod) March 22, 2016 While attending a golf event in Florida earlier this month, Meyer was asked about Michigan’s spring practice session at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. His response at the time: “I’m looking into it for next year and maybe the future, too. It’s creative and if it’s good for the players, we’ll probably do it.” Meyer then tried to clarify what he was discussing Tuesday. “Someone asked me a question, ‘Would we look into it?’ ” Meyer said, per Cleveland.com. “We’re looking into everything.” Does Harbaugh have a response to this one? — Follow MLive’s Michigan coverage on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
