Buckeyes’ Cait Craft suffers broken hand, out for rest of NCAAs

6:27 PM ET ESPN.com news services Ohio State senior guard Cait Craft suffered a broken left hand in practice Tuesday night and is out for the rest of the season. The Buckeyes, the No. 3 seed in the Sioux Falls regional, play seventh-seeded Tennessee on Friday (9:30 p.m., ESPN2) in the regional semifinals of the women’s NCAA tournament. Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said Craft was injured during a routine play in practice. “I really feel badly for her,” McGuff told The Columbus Dispatch. “She is such a great kid, and as a senior she’s put so much into getting us to this point it’s really disappointing for her that she can’t play.” Craft has appeared in 32 of Ohio State’s 33 games this season, averaging 4.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. A team captain who often plays multiple positions, the versatile Craft will especially missed on the defensive end, McGuff told ESPN. She has 46 steals on the season, which ranks second on the team. Ohio State beat Buffalo in the first round and then eliminated West Virginia in the second round Sunday when Buckeyes star Kelsey Mitchell scored 45 points. The winner of Friday’s Ohio State-Tennessee game advances to the regional final to play either top-seeded South Carolina or No. 4 seed Syracuse.
