Ohio State Football’s coaching carousel

The Ohio State Football program has always found success. With great coaches always finding their way to Columbus, it is often overlooked how amazing a coach really is when Buckeye fans happen to come across the conversation. With greats like Woody Hayes, Jim Tressel, and now Urban Meyer, it is easily taken for granted when you have elite coaching talent year in and year out. This past year, the Buckeyes signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano to help long time defensive coordinator Luke Fickell. It is strange to me that Buckeye nation is seemingly unimpressed with a hire of this caliber, considering the fact that he turned the Rutgers football program around during his time there. He was an NFL coach for two recent seasons and he agreed to be nothing more than a Co-Defensive Coordinator. Schiano could have easily found himself another coaching position somewhere else in the country, but instead he chose to come here and be a member of the elite coaching staff that exists at Ohio State. When you’re bringing in elite talent to coach, you also have to say goodbye to it as it leaves and the Buckeyes have been forced to say goodbye numerous times lately.
