Meyer responds to criticism from former recruit

COLUMBUS — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer acknowledged Tuesday criticism from former recruit Landon Young who was offered by Ohio State but eventually signed with his hometown team, the Kentucky Wildcats. Young, a four-star offensive lineman, told SECCountry.com he was “treated like crap” on a visit to the school and was upset the Buckeyes did not offer him early in the process only later when other schools did as well. The 6-7, 270-pound offensive lineman from Lexington, Kentucky was the jewel of Kentucky’s 2016 recruiting class and Meyer admitted the Buckeyes “probably missed on him.” “We have a lot of respect for him as a player, a lot. I was very disappointed in our staff that we didn’t offer him earlier. Then about the treatment thing, we don’t do that on purpose, if that’s his feelings. I went back and talked to our staff about it.” Meyer did make sure to point out “that was one [recruit] out of 650 saying ‘Someone has treated me bad.'” Also Tuesday Meyer broke down spring football into stages starting with install, create chaos and shut it down to make tough decisions about the team’s depth chart.
