Ohio State’s weekend of shenanigans

The Ohio State Buckeyes are providing few dull moments as a nation waits for the college football season to start. Over the course of the last few days, the university — and its players — have even kicked it up a few notches. Starting with what is now a prank done by nearly every college football program in the country, Ohio State players were duped by the timeless classic that is getting scared by what appears to be a random dummy, but is actually a human merely waiting to scare the living daylights out of other members of their species. [embedded content] Some parents even got involved in the tomfoolery. Without attempting to be too cynical, it is all merely harmless fun and probably good chemistry building. Luckily, no one was literally scared to death. But wait… there is more. The losing Ohio State “team” in the spring game had to pull some extra duty thanks to failing to win a glorified scrimmage. The ‘scarlet team’ had to show up and shovel mulch Friday after losing last month’s scrimmage 28-17 to the Gray squad. No one was spared from the smartly devised extra free labor this caused, as Heisman candidate J.T. Barrett and returning All-Big Ten offensive lineman Pat Elflein were among the players who had to dig the mulch…
