While the game attempts to strengthen player development, there is a punishment for the loser. The Scarlet team was on the receiving end of that punishment this year, losing 28-17 to the Grey team, and being forced to shovel mulch onto trees planted around the college stadium. The trees are planted in memory of past players and always need some fresh soil. Moral of the story; every game counts.
