Elflein named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

Today, Wednesday July 6, is Pat Elflein’s 22nd birthday, and the Ohio State Buckeyes’ offensive lineman got an addition present today with news that he has been named to the Rimington Trophy Pre-Season Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is awarded after every year to college football’s most outstanding offensive center. Elflein, who has started at right guard for the Buckeyes the past two seasons, is moving to center this year for Ohio State upon the departure of Jacoby Boren to graduation. Elflein is going into his fifth year at Ohio State, where he has already earned his degree in communications. At 6-foot-3, 300-pounds, he has twice been named an All-Conference player, participating in 42 games, starting 29, during his career. During his two seasons as a starter, he has helped the Ohio State offensive line to lead the top two yards-per-carry averages in the program’s history, while also becoming a leader off the field, already named a captain by Urban Meyer for the upcoming season. The coaches have high hopes for Elflein’s move to center, and many inside the program believe the transition will help solidify him as a high pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
