COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Fair is taking place from July 27 through Aug. 7. Here are eight facts that make the Ohio State Fair unique. Why eight reasons? Because last year, the Ohio State Fair was voted the eighth best state fair in the country by USA Today’s 10Best (http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-state-fair/) 1. Total attendance for the Ohio State Fair in the last five years (2011-2015): 4,476,463 2. Schmidt’s of German Village has been a vendor at the Ohio State Fair for more than 100 years. They are famous for their Bahama Mamas and cream puffs and they are the oldest continuous restaurant participating at the Ohio State Fair. In the last 100 years, Schmidt’s has sold more than 870,000 cream puffs, 1,070,000 sausages, 203,000 frankfurters and 265,000 pounds of sauerkraut at the Ohio State Fair. 3. There are nearly 200 food vendors at the Ohio State Fair – from classics such as lemon shake-ups and corn dogs to unique items like chocolate covered bacon and deep-fried candy bars. 4. The Ferris wheel has more than 7,500 LED lights and holds up to 1,200 people per hour and the half-mile SkyGlider accommodates 1,800 riders per hour and has 98 cars. 5.…
