OU football: OU-Ohio State game sold out

NORMAN — Oklahoma announced its first football sellout of the 2016 season Thursday. It’s the Sept. 17 matchup against Ohio State. “Coming off another outstanding championship season and with the unveiling of the new south end zone seating and amenities, we’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support from our fans,” athletic director Joe Castiglione said in a release. “There is a lot of positive momentum as we head into 2016. “The Ohio State game will attract the largest crowd ever to see a football game in our state, and with the kind of interest we’re seeing, it won’t be surprising if other games are similarly attended.” Oklahoma has sold out all 104 games since coach Bob Stoops took over the program in 1999. During that time, the Sooners’ average attendance has been 82,504 per game. Oklahoma is 96-8 at home under Stoops, winning 39 consecutive home games at one point. The Sooners’ .923 home winning percentage in the last 17 seasons is best among Power Five schools. The Buckeyes are second at .875. Oklahoma plays at Ohio State in 2017.
