On the field, Gareon Conley embraces the spotlight.That’s a job requirement for an Ohio State cornerback. In the Buckeyes’ press defensive scheme, eagerness to be put on display is a must. Off the field, though, Conley has no need for microphones or cameras. The junior doesn’t seek the spotlight. “I don’t really care about media,” Conley said. “It just doesn’t mean that much to me. I just play with my teammates and try to get wins for my teammates.” Conley prefers anonymity, but his play might make that impossible. He is the only returning starter in a secondary that has developed into a shutdown unit faster than anyone could have anticipated. Elected a captain by his teammates, Conley has developed into what coach Urban Meyer called an “exceptional” leader. “He and Raekwon (McMillan) are the leaders of the defense with Tyquan (Lewis),” Meyer said. “He’s a very vocal leader.
