Ohio State football | Buckeyes are No. 6 in playoff rankings

Ohio State was No. 6 Tuesday night in the first 2016 College Football Playoff rankings, a list which had a mild surprise by showing one-beaten Texas A&M at No.4 ahead of unbeaten but No. 5 Washington.As for the very top of the rankings, there was no surprise at all: Alabama was No. 1, Clemson No. 2 and Michigan No. 3, all unbeaten.  Of course, it was the first rankings of what is an incomplete body of work for all concerned. The rankings that matter will come on the Sunday of the first week of December when the final top four will be matched in the semfinals of the third College Football Playoff. >>> Follow BuckeyeXtra on Facebook and Twitter Ohio State won the first one back in the 2014 season, rising as a one-loss team into the final four based in large part on how it finished the regular season which included a 59-0 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game. Then last season the Buckeyes lost in the 11th game of the season to Michigan State and did not make the playoffs. The Buckeyes might need a finish similar to 2014 to make the final four again this year as they work…
