Ohio State football: Struggles in passing game remain

Although Ohio State defeated its Big Ten rival Northwestern 24-20 last Saturday, the team continued to struggle in its passing game. These struggles have loomed over the Buckeyes all season, but have been most prevalent in their last four games. While Ohio State’s passing game got off to a good start in its four games, passing for 955 yards, it has had trouble maintaining that success since. Against Indiana, Wisconsin, Penn State and Northwestern, Ohio State threw for only a combined 787 yards. As a result, the Buckeyes are averaging 220.5 passing yards per game, which ties them for 77th in the nation with Mississippi State. While this isn’t horrible, it is definitely not ideal for Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes. At times, it has seemed that junior quarterback J.T. Barrett has been indecisive when in the pocket. This could be a result of play calling, the inability for receivers to get open, poor protection from the offensive line or a combination of all three.
