COLUMBUS, Ohio — Everyone freaked out a little bit when one-loss Texas A&M found itself at No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff rankings this week, especially because unbeaten Washington was the team that was left out. Here’s a secret: It doesn’t matter. Right now Texas A&M doesn’t have a path to the SEC Championship, and Washington is still playing for an unbeaten season. An undefeated Pac-12 champion would have an advantage over a team like Texas A&M. But the rationale for A&M being that high puts Ohio State in an interesting position this week. The committee likes A&M because of its group of wins over teams with winning records. Ohio State has some of those, and the chance to get another big one on Saturday night against No. 10 Nebraska. Texas A&M’s best win is against No. 9 Auburn, and that’s its only win against a team currently ranked. Ohio State, if it beats Nebraska, will have wins over No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 10 Nebraska and No. 14 Oklahoma.
