Ohio State football | Buckeyes leap to No. 2 in Coaches Poll

Calamity befell major college football on Saturday night, and the grand beneficiary was Ohio State.The Buckeyes (9-1), coming off a second straight 62-3 victory, this time at Maryland, today leaped to No. 2 in the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll behind unbeaten and unanimous No. 1 Alabama. The reason for Ohio State’s upward mobility was what happened to three previously unbeaten teams: Clemson lost to Pittsburgh, Michigan fell to Iowa and Washington was beaten by Southern California. One-loss Louisville moved to No. 3 in the new Coaches Poll, followed by No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson, while the Big Ten’s two-loss Wisconsin is now No. 6. Washington is No. 7, followed by Oklahoma, West Virginia and two-loss Penn State to round out the top 10. The new Associated Press poll of the media reflected the same shakeup.
