Spring Football Preview: Safeties


This time next week, the Buckeyes’ spring practice will be well underway. Before we get there though, we have to finish our spring preview. Today we turn our attention to the back of the defense… Replacing one of two A year ago, Ohio State didn’t know who would play either safety position. Malik Hooker had made some big plays in practice, but the OSU staff wasn’t sure if he could live up to those expectations when the lights came on. It didn’t take Hooker long to demonstrate that his performances in practice weren’t flukes. In fact, it took less than one game to record two interceptions. He finished tied for third in the country in picks and scored three touchdowns on interceptions. Hooker was unanimous first-team All-Big Ten and first-team All-American. In only one year, Hooker stamped his name in the Ohio State record books, and that’s what the Buckeyes…
