Ohio State football: New players, same old excitement at first practice

Bill Rabinowitz The Columbus Dispatch @brdispatch Ohio State opened spring football practice this morning with a roster that again features plenty of new faces. “Journey ’17 has started,” Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said. “As most coaches do, I feel very good about the first practice.” The Buckeyes have a foundation of senior leaders. Quarterback J.T. Barrett, defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis and center Billy Price are already designated as captains on the team roster. Barrett is the first three-year captain in Ohio State history. Ohio State has an incoming freshman class that’s as highly ranked as the Buckeyes have had. Nine of those freshmen had their first on-field action this morning. They were joined by junior-college cornerback Kendall Sheffield, who enrolled March 1.
