Why Jackson Carman, 2018’s top OT recruit, favors Clemson and Ohio State

Jackson Carman is the top-rated offensive tackle in football’s 2018 recruiting class. He’ll have his pick of the country’s top programs, but two lead the way right now: Ohio State and Clemson, he told SB Nation at Nike’s regional recruiting combine for The Opening, in Cleveland. Carman plays his high school ball in Fairfield, Ohio, and the Buckeyes have made Carman every bit the top target you’d expect. Only once in the last seven years have they not signed the top player in their state, and in that year (2016), they got Nos. 2 and 3. Urban Meyer has a way of keeping top talent home. But Clemson’s come on strong. The Tigers are the defending national champions, and they got there via a blowout win against Ohio State in last season’s Fiesta Bowl Playoff semifinal.
