Ohio State won't be following Michigan on overseas trip

CHICAGO — Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said the Michigan football team’s trip to Rome was a “great trip,” but he isn’t in a rush to send his football team on a similar one. Asked about the trip on Monday at the Big Ten joint meetings at the conference’s headquarters, the longtime Buckeyes athletic director was complimentary. “It was a great trip,” Smith said on Monday. “Tuscany is one of my favorite vacation places. That’s where I’d go.” But will Ohio State be following its rival’s lead and taking its football team somewhere overseas? “Probably not,” Smith said. “We’re comfortable with what we do.” Michigan’s eight-day journey through Rome last month was viewed as a unique college football event.
