Thad Matta Is Done At Ohio State Now, Not After 2017-18

Ohio State made the news official today.The Thad Matta era is over at Ohio State. The Buckeyes announced this afternoon that the 49-year-old coach is stepping down, effective immediately. It had been previously reported that Matta would be stepping down after the 2017-18 season. Matta and Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith held a press conference this afternoon to discuss the news. “Thad and I came to a mutual understanding that a leadership change was needed,” Smith said. Matta was visibly emotional in the press conference, but said he understand why the decision was made. “Mutual decision,” he said.
