Ohio State No. 6 in first College Football Playoff rankings of 2017

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State was ranked No. 6 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season released on Tuesday night. The SEC took the top two spots, with Georgia ahead of Alabama. Notre Dame was No. 3, Clemson No. 4 and Oklahoma No. 5. The head-to-head win by Oklahoma over Ohio State in week two clearly mattered to the committee. The past three years, the Buckeyes were No. 16 in the first week in 2014; No. 3 in the first rankings in 2015; and No. 6 in the first week last year. Ohio State made the playoff in 2014 and 2016 and not 2015.
