COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State is No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night. These were the third rankings of the season. The Buckeyes were No. 6 in the first rankings two weeks ago, then dropped to No. 13 after a 31-point loss at Iowa. But five teams ranked ahead of the Buckeyes lost last week, quickly changing their playoff status from unlikely to possible. You knew Ohio State would check in somewhere between No. 8 and No. 10, so this was no surprise. The fact that the Buckeyes were ahead of the top team from the Pac-12 is a good sign for Ohio State.
