On Tuesday morning, the Football Writers Association of America announced the preseason watch list for the 2018 Outland Trophy presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. This award is presented annually to the nation’s most standout interior linemen representing all 10 Division I FBS conferences and independent programs. Three Ohio State players — fourth-year junior defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones, junior guard Michael Jordan and senior tackle Isaiah Prince — were all named to the initial Outland Trophy watch list of 82 players.
Jones came to the Buckeyes as a big defensive end and made the transition to defensive tackle during his redshirt season. In his second year, Jones was expected to be a backup to Tracy Sprinkle, but the upperclassmen suffered a season-ending injury in the Scarlet and Gray’s opener and the redshirt freshman was inserted in as a starter. He finished the 2016 season with 51 total tackles and four tackles for a loss.
