CHICAGO — When Urban Meyer said in the spring that he expected linebacker Tuf Borland to be back from an Achilles injury in time to play this season, it sounded a bit pie in the sky. Meyer’s reasoning? Tuf is, well, tough. It’s important to note that we were never told the extent of Borland’s injury. Maybe it was a tear, maybe it wasn’t. But Achilles tears can require nearly a year of recovery, and even then players don’t always return in the right form. It’s a serious issue. It appears Meyer was right, though, and that Borland is progressing to the point that he’s expected be ready in the first half of the season. “Not for the opening of camp,” Meyer said. “If I needed him to be he probably would be.
