Ohio State football ranked No. 3 in preseason coaches poll

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Amid an investigation into head coach Urban Meyer, and with uncertainty surrounding the program, Ohio State was voted No. 3 in the preseason coaches poll, released Thursday. The voting for the poll took place before Wednesday’s news that Meyer would go on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into what he knew about domestic abuse allegations against former receivers coach Zach Smith in 2015. Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will serve as acting head coach in the interim. The Buckeyes are set to open camp on Friday. Alabama, the defending national champion, was No. 1 with 61 of 65 first-place votes. Clemson was No. 2, getting three first-place votes. Ohio State received one first-place vote.
