COLUMBUS, Ohio — As has been the case for the past few years, the coaches poll has no effect on the College Football Playoff. The preseason coaches poll came out on Thursday, a day before several teams, including Ohio State, even began their preseason fall camps. And with so much that can still happen in a month, things might be very different in college football come Sept. 1. The Buckeyes came in at No. 3 in the poll, and received a first-place vote. Alabama, the defending national champions, were No. 1 with 61 of 65 first-place votes. Clemson was No. 2, getting three first-place votes.
