Ohio State officials have begun discussions with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day about a potential “coach-in-waiting” arrangement to ultimately succeed Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes’ head coach, according to a report by The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman. From Wasserman’s report: A person close to the program told The Athletic that senior university officials have begun discussions with Day about a “coach-in-waiting” arrangement, meaning he would be Meyer’s eventual successor as Buckeyes coach. The person spoke on the condition of the anonymity because the discussions are not completed. Day, who signed a three-year deal worth $1 million when he was promoted to offensive coordinator earlier this year, was Ohio State’s acting head coach for the first three games of this season while Meyer was suspended.
