With its College Football Playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Ohio State on Saturday delivered a convincing 45-24 win over Northwestern in the Big Ten championship game that will, at the very least, secure it a spot in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes (12-1) hope their result, in addition to the resume they built throughout the regular season, is enough for the committee to push them ahead of Oklahoma and Georgia and into the Playoff. While many saw the Wildcats (8-5) as undeserving of being in the championship game due to their lack of a big win and because they are in the weaker West Division, they held their own, even getting cutting Ohio State’s lead to three points in the third quarter.
