COLUMBUS, Ohio — Following the firing of Zach Smith for domestic violence, former head coach Urban Meyer named Brian Hartline as a one-year replacement to coach the wide receivers. Hartline went on to coach a receiving corps whose cumulative stats broke Ohio State’s single-season records for receptions, yards and touchdowns. Those numbers gave Ryan Day — named Meyer’s successor as head coach on Tuesday — a reason to promote Hartline to the Buckeyes’ full-time wide receivers coach. Ohio State seniors Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin, and junior K.J. Hill combined for a total of 291 catches for 4,211 yards and 43 touchdowns while becoming the first team in school history to have four receivers with over 1,000 yards.
