COLUMBUS, Ohio — With a little less than 10 minutes to play in the second half, Ohio State held a 14-7 lead over Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship. At that moment Chase Young made his presence known. On third-and-10 from the Wildcats’ 39, QB Clayton Thorson dropped back for a pass and within seconds Young met him in the backfield, knocking the ball loose. Jordan Fuller recovered for OSU. But Young’s night had already been productive. Midway through the third quarter, Young and Thorson met again, with the sophomore defensive end’s hand brushing Thorson’s throwing arm, causing an attempted pass to ricochet off the helmet of a Northwestern offensive lineman to defensive back Damon Arnette.
